Amit Shah Punjab Visit: Home Minister to Offer Prayers at Shri Devi Talab Mandir Before Rally

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jalandhar on Wednesday as the city witnessed heightened activity and last-minute preparations ahead of his anti-drug rally.
Shah landed at Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj Adampur Airport before travelling by helicopter towards the Shri Devi Talab Mandir complex. His chopper landed at the helipad prepared at the LR Doaba School grounds, located adjacent to the temple, at around 12.25 pm.
Before addressing the anti-drug rally, Shah is scheduled to pay obeisance at the historic 200-year-old Tripurmalini shrine located within the Shri Devi Talab Mandir complex.
According to the schedule, the Union Home Minister will spend around 30 minutes at the shrine. After offering prayers at the main temple, he will proceed to the Tripurmalini shrine.
Shah’s visit comes as the Punjab BJP concludes its anti-drug campaign with a major rally in Jalandhar. The drug issue is expected to remain a key focus of his address.
Security tightened ahead of rally
Security arrangements have been intensified across Jalandhar ahead of the Home Minister’s programme. Earlier on Wednesday, several private schools in Jalandhar reportedly received a bomb threat email warning of alleged IED blasts at multiple locations. The email was received at around 7.07 am from an unidentified Gmail account and was sent to multiple school email IDs, including those of MGN, Urban Estate Phase 2, and Cambridge Innovative School in Jalandhar. Similar threats were also reportedly received by schools in Amritsar.
The threat prompted security agencies to remain on high alert ahead of Shah’s visit. Authorities were also closely monitoring the rally venue and other locations linked to the Home Minister’s programme.
Political activity intensifies
Shah’s visit has also triggered political activity across Jalandhar. Hoardings questioning the BJP on issues including drugs and Punjab’s water-sharing concerns have appeared at several major intersections and on roads leading towards the rally venue.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa raised questions regarding drug and weapons smuggling into Punjab through drones from across the international border. He sought details about the effectiveness of anti-drone technology and border security measures.
The visit has also witnessed a police action against leaders of the Muslim Organisation Punjab after the organisation announced plans to show black flags to Shah. According to the information provided, Punjab Police placed general secretary Mazhar Alam under house arrest on Wednesday morning.
With Amit Shah now in Jalandhar, attention is focused on his address at the anti-drug rally and the announcements, if any, that he makes during his visit.
