Harsimrat Kaur Badal Appeals to Union Government to Address Farmers' Demands

Chandigarh – Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal today urged the union government to accept the demands of the farmers, including making MSP a legal guarantee, to save the life of Kisan leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, whose fast unto death has entered the 21st day. Addressing parliament, Badal highlighted the deteriorating health of the senior Kisan leader and reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his promise to accept all farmers' demands while repealing the three agriculture laws four years ago.

Badal emphasized that despite the Supreme Court's directions to both the State and Centre to persuade Dallewal to end his fast, the center had only deputed a low-level official who had nothing substantial to offer. She stressed the need for urgent action to save Dallewal’s life, urging the government to accept his demands, which include MSP, debt waiver, pension for farmers and agricultural workers, assurance that electricity tariffs for the farm sector would not be increased, withdrawal of police cases, and justice for those affected by the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

She also criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for failing to convey the gravity of the situation to the union government, with Dallewal’s fast unto death entering its 21st day. Badal stated, “The AAP government has completely failed to present the enormity of the situation to the union government.”

During the event, Badal reiterated the need for a collective effort to address the farmers' issues and called for immediate intervention to prevent further loss of life. She urged the government to fulfill its promises and take concrete steps to support the farmers and their families.
